An old haunt gets a new start
Way back when I started doing The Great Burger Hunt I did a
location that was close to home –
Park Tower
.
I loved going there.
Sadly one day this past year they closed
down.
It didn’t take long for
Gus and Tony’s at the Par
k to move
into the vacant spot.
Now I didn’t rush
Gus and Tony’s is the same Greek style of
food that Park Tower was.
out
to try it but I had heard lots of great things from friends and family.
Finally, last week, I made my way down there with James to
try their burger.
I had to see if it was
as good as Park Tower’s burger.
The menu for Gus and Tony’s is pretty diverse.
They have a nice amount of starters, simple
items like chicken fingers, wings, and nachos, or stuff with more of a Greek
feel like spanakopita, tyropita, and ntako salad.
The burger options are pretty good too.
All burgers come with chili, mustard, onions,
and pickles and the Deluxe burgers also come with lettuce, tomato, and
mayo.
Your choices are a hamburger,
double burger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, chili burger, deluxe burger,
double deluxe, deluxe with cheese, double deluxe with cheese.
And if those options weren’t enough you can
add bacon, mushrooms, or another patty.
There
is also a chicken burger, which can be breaded or grilled, if you are into that
sort of thing.
They also have hot dogs,
pitas, pasta, salads, sandwiches (7 different kinds), chicken souvlaki, pork
souvlaki, fish & chips.
Yup, that is
a nice diverse menu.
Plus they serve breakfast!
Not all day.
But at specific
times.
I ended up getting a Deluxe Cheeseburger with fries and a
Little Scrapper.
James got the same,
minus the beer.
It did not take long for the food to arrive.
I dug into the fries first while James tackled
his burger.
At first I really liked the
fries, they were hot, crispy, and had a semi-soft inside, although they were a
little bland.
I did cover them in pepper
and vinegar too.
The fries started to
get cold though and my opinion changed quickly.
Bland and cold equaled tasteless drivel since the softness of the hot
fries became hard.
My suggestion.
Eat the fries fast and first.
The burger on the other hand, was amazing.
It had tons of flavor, coming from a well put
together patty and tasty chili.
The bun
was light and fluffy, which started to fall apart but didn’t quite fall apart
completely, always on the cusp of becoming a giant mess but that never happened.
There was a nice even distribution of veggies
on the burger as well.
We also added
mustard to our burgers, which I recommend.
Overall I was very happy with my meal, even with the slowly
disappointing fries.
It was relatively
cheap considering the amount of food you got too.
They have me as a return customer.
What I got
: deluxe cheeseburger and fries - $9.25 (before
taxes)
